Welcome to Year 3
The children have had a great start to the year and have quickly got familiar with their new routines and their transition into Key Stage 2. All of the children have made great relationships with their new teachers and the teachers have loved getting to know their new class.
Our topic this half term has been focusing on the ‘Local Area’ and the children have enjoyed their recent trip exploring the local surroundings. They have loved looking at the different types of buildings in Tingley and their purposes, and have had the experience of using and creating their own map!
In Science the children have been studying ‘rocks’ and have been very enthusiastic when looking at the different types of rock and learning about fossils! This fit well when looking at the different buildings on our walk around the local area as some children could identify some of the different types of rock on our journey!
In Maths the children have been looking at place value and addition and subtraction. They have really enjoyed using practical resources such as the place value counters and base 10 to represent their understanding of number. We have been very pleased with how confidently the children explain their knowledge and understanding as they do their calculations.
In English we have explored a wide range of Julia Donaldson books and the children have been very imaginative each week when retelling or making their own versions of the story!
The children have also been developing their skills within gymnastics this half-term and have been using the apparatus to travel and create their own sequences of movements.
