Welcome to Year 5

Since Christmas we have finished our topic of space. This ended with the children’s favourite part of the topic – making and racing their moon buggies. It was a great day in school developing our DT skills and then taking them outside to see how well they had been made.

We also started our new topic (Life Cycles). This meant the arrival of our feathered friends. The children really enjoyed watching the eggs hatch and the chicks grow into the little fluff balls they were at the end of the two weeks. We spent time holding them and letting the chicks have a little run about on the tables, where unfortunately they did poo a lot, much to the enjoyment of the children.

As a school we also celebrated word book day, and completed some amazing activities. We kicked started the week with a PJ day and listened to David Walliams read one of his book. We then decorated the door as a book cover. Later on in the week, we were able to pair up with another class to read with them. It was lovely to see our Year 5’s read with the younger children! Then finally, the children’s favourite – dress as a book character! Have a look at some of the amazing costumes.
