Welcome to Nursery Class!
In Nursery the teaching staff are Mrs Reid - Class Teacher and Miss Richardson - Teaching Assistant

Our topic this half term is… ’Do we love where we live?’
In our first topic the children will be thinking about who helps them at school and how we move around early years space.
Health & Self Care
In nursery we support your child to become more independent by teaching them how to dress and undress, put on their shoes, and coat and help with their zip. We will also teach your child to put their own straws in their milk cartons, peel their own fruit and use a knife and fork.
Please can all parents ensure that their child has a bag of spare clothes in Nursery for any mishaps that may occur when exploring! Thank you in advance for your cooperation! We will encourage children to change themselves, by instructing them how to take off and put on clothes and support them when they need it.
Our children can always access our wonderful outdoor learning environment. When the weather gets colder, children will need a warm coat, gloves, and hat. On wet days, children can wear wellies and even puddle suits. Please ensure all clothes are clearly labelled.
Mark Making
In nursery we have daily dough disco lessons.
Dough Disco is a fun, music-led activity where children mold playdough into different shapes and perform actions to a song, helping to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and muscle strength, which can support handwriting and improve pencil grip.
Every day, the children will be asked to have a go at writing their name. We will support children at every stage, whether this is making shapes in the air with their finger, making patterns in glitter, learning to hold a pencil correctly or perfecting correct letter formation. To help your child learn the correct way to say the sounds in your child’s name and how to form the letters correctly please look at the Little Wandle parent information section on their website.
We keep a record of children’s name writing each term and will share this with you on Tapestry to see their amazing progress.
Phonics
Children will begin to participate in Little Wandle Phonics lessons for Nursery children. Each week the children will learn a different Nursery rhyme to sing. They will also begin to identify environmental sounds, syllables in words, words that rhyme and the initial sound of words in a fun and interactive way.
Mathematics
Our children will be learning to hear and say number names, begin to order number names, subitize 1, 2 and 3 objects by looking quickly, join in with repeating patterns and explore position and space.
Water Bottles
Please send your child to school with a clear plastic bottle filled with water each day. Please note that due to dentistry guidelines, bottles must only contain water as regular consumption of juice can cause cavities.
Tapestry
We use ‘Tapestry’ to record observations of your child’s learning. Tapestry is a wonderful way to see your child’s progression throughout the year. Once you have downloaded the app and are set up with log in details, you will be able to see photos and observations of your child in school. You will also be able to upload photos and observations of what your child has been learning at home and any ‘wow moments’ they have. If you are unable to access your account or would like support in how to use it, please feel free to inform the Nursery team. We’re happy to help! We look forward to sharing our magical moments from Nursery and seeing what your child has been saying and doing at home too!
