Welcome to Reception Robins!
We are delighted to welcome our new Reception Robins to Blackgates Primary School. This year, the children will be supported by Mrs Gray and Mrs Coulson (class teachers), alongside Mrs Greenough and Miss Miller (learning support assistants). Together, we are committed to creating a warm, safe and stimulating environment where your child can flourish.
Our school day begins at 8:40am (register will close at 9:00) and ends at 3:20pm, and we thank you for helping us establish good routines from the very start.
The Autumn term is all about helping children to settle into their new routines, make new friends and grow in confidence as independent learners. The children are learning how to access the classroom and resources, how to share and take turns, and how to become part of our Reception family.
A key focus this term is the start of phonics, following the Little Wandle programme. The children will begin to recognise sounds, blend them together and use these skills to start their reading and writing journey. Alongside this, we are developing early maths skills through counting, subitising, exploring shapes, making comparisons and investigating space and measure in fun, practical ways.
Our topic for Autumn 1 is “Do We Love Where We Live?”. Through this theme, the children will learn more about their community and environment, while building curiosity and confidence in talking about the world around them. As part of our learning, we will also enjoy the story Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper. We will be retelling the story, exploring its characters, and then coming together to make our very own pumpkin soup – always a highlight of the term!
PE will take place on Thursdays, and we ask that children come prepared with their PE kit o change into before each session.
We ask that children bring a water bottle to school each day which they will have free access to. Please fill these will plain water each day.
We are excited for the year ahead and cannot wait to see how much the children grow in confidence, independence and learning throughout their time in Reception Robins.
