Welcome to Year 1 Owls

Children in Owls have thoroughly enjoyed their first half term. We strive to challenge ourselves in taking new challenges and have built the foundations for budding friendships.

In Maths we have been focusing on perfecting number formations up to 20, counting forwards and backwards, studying more than and less than, adding numbers up to 10 and subtracting numbers under 10. In coming months, we will be adding and subtracting numbers that cross 10 and practising our 2 times tables.

In English we have retold a variety of stories including Owl Babies, Funnybones, The Tiger that Came for Tea and We’re Going on a Bear hunt. Each written lesson, children have focused on ensuring that they are writing on the lines and are including capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. As well as retelling stories focusing on the 5 senses, we have learnt about certain words types like adjectives and verbs.

During our Topic work this half term, we have been learning about ourselves and the area that we live in. Specifically, the different parts of our bodies, our five senses and what we use them for. In Food Technology, the children worked together to make Pumpkin Soup and even got to taste a little afterwards! We love to be creative in class and have taken part school projects such as performing at Harvest Festival and Fashion Week, where children have designed and made their own recyclable fashion item. Well done Owls!
