Welcome to Year 3

The children have really settled into year 3 and are showing great attitudes and enthusiasm towards their learning. All of the children continue to develop great relationships with their teachers and their peers.

Our topic this half term has been focusing on the ‘Ancient Egyptians’ which the children have really enjoyed! The children have created some brilliant work around this and have even gone as far as doing their own research out of school. They were very excited about their trip to the museum and loved seeing a real-life Mummy!

In Science the children have been studying ‘Magnets and Forces’ and have really enjoyed using magnets to explore a wide range of magnetic materials and now have a good understanding of how a magnet works.

In Maths the children have been looking at money and length and perimeter. They have really enjoyed using practical resources such as the coins when calculating money problems and the rulers and metre sticks for measuring. The children continue to show confidence in their abilities and constantly demonstrate their knowledge and understanding around a topic in their explanations and use of vocabulary.

In English we have explored a wide range of Egyptian Mythology texts which the children have been very interested in. They have been intrigued to find out about the different pharaohs and their way of life. We have also done lots of instruction writing; the children will be very good at instructing a mummification!

The children have also been developing their skills within dance and have learnt a new routine ‘walk like an Egyptian’. The children demonstrated co-ordination and great listening skills when learning this routine.

In the Summer term our topic will change to ‘Animal Plant’. We are very excited to begin exploring this!
